Former Lottery Employee Indicted on Embezzlement Charge

Anthony J. McNeil, 55, could face up to 10 years in prison for the felony charge.

A former S.C. Education Lottery employee was indicted Friday for embezzling more than $200,000 from the lottery, according to the S.C. Attorney General's Office. 

Anthony J. McNeil, 55, of Columbia is charged with embezzlement of public funds over $10,000 and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the felony.

Between April 2010 and August 2012, McNeil, who worked in the finance department at the lottery, used a scheme involving overcharges, computer changes, bank account sweeps and redirecting of certain funds, according to the indictment. McNeil received the money while no discrepancy appeared in the lottery's overall numbers.

McNeil was first arrested in November.

The S.C. Attorney General's Office will prosecute the case.
