'Orchids on the Riverbanks Festival' Starts Friday

The show features orchids from around the world.

Zoogoers can view a vibrant display of orchids from around the world this weekend at Riverbanks Zoo

The zoo is partnering with the S.C. Orchid Society and Ikebana International Chapter 182 for the 8th annual Orchids on the Riverbanks Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tired of roses for Valentine's Day? Orchid vendors from across the Carolinas will be on hand selling live plants for your favorite Valentine.

The event also features free programs and expert planting tips for everyone from seasoned growers to the greenest of thumbs. 

The general festival hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission to Orchids on the Riverbanks is free with paid admission to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.

Scheduled programs include: 

  • 11 a.m. Saturday: Seagrove Orchids will be discussing the best practices for potting and mounting orchids.
  • 1 p.m. Saturday: Carter and Holmes will host a workshop on growing orchids in the home.
