Police: Man Accused of Having Sex with Minor

Columbia Police arrested a 24-year-old accused of having sex with a young girl in a car Monday morning. 

Kelvin Felix Alvarez is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after police found him and a 12-year-old girl in a car parked at the back of a vacant home on Columbia Avenue shortly after 7 a.m., the department said.

Police said the girl told authorities she and Alvarez are acquaintances, and that she asked him for a ride to an undisclosed location. That location was different from the vacant home.

Both Alvarez and the victim were found partially clothed inside the car, according to the department.

Police said Alvarez and the minor allegedly slept in the car overnight.

Alvarez was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and has been released to her mother, the department said.
