Police: Man Breaks into Columbia Home, Assaults Woman

The incident happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Pine Mast Court.

Columbia Police arrested a 22-year-old man who they say broke into a woman's home, tried to steal her car and choked her. 

Tarrance Douglas is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and battery and strong arm robbery.

Police say Douglas broke into the woman's home in the 100 block of Pine Mast Court before 7 a.m. Tuesday morning and demanded her car keys. 

When she didn't give the keys to him, he grabbed her around the neck and choked her, according to police. He then ran from the scene.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

An officer and his K9 tracked Douglas to the Fountain Lake Court area and arrested him. He was later booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
