Richland County Government: County Stormwater Employee To Serve With Regional Advocacy Group

Synithia Williams, general manager for Richland County Stormwater Management, will serve as secretary/treasurer for an organization focused on the needs of stormwater professionals in city and county government.

Formed in 2005, the Southeast Stormwater Association (SESWA) helps governments find solutions to challenges of surface water quality and stormwater management. Williams has been a member of SESWA for more than 10 years, having presented at many of the group’s conferences and workshops during that time.

“I was honored to be chosen for this position,” Williams said. “I’m proud of the work SESWA does to provide education, policy assistance and support to stormwater professionals in the Southeast.”

In 2017, Williams formally joined the group’s policy committee, and the next year she was elected to the board of directors. In 2019, she was recommended to serve as a board representative on SESWA’s executive committee.

In her time with the group, Williams has played a strategic planning role, helping develop initiatives to address members’ needs and creating more value for their membership through educational programming and advocacy.

“I’m excited to work with the other leaders in the organization to implement these new initiatives and provide even more value to members of the organization,” Williams said.

Membership in SESWA is available to those in state, regional and local governments, the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and academia. SESWA is active in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
