Richland One Names April 'Teacher Feature' Honoree

Tabitha Boyd-Collins, a fifth-grade teacher at Bradley Elementary School, will be featured on Richland One TV.

The ability to combine “new-school” practices and “old-school” traditions is just one of the reasons Tabitha Boyd-Collins was selected as the Richland One "Teacher Feature" honoree for April.

“Teacher Feature,” the district’s monthly segment that highlights outstanding educators on Richland One TV, is broadcast on Time Warner Cable channel 12. 

Boyd-Collins, who is a National Board-certified teacher, teaches fifth grade at Bradley Elementary School.

Her dedication to her students has won the respect of her colleagues.

“Mrs. Boyd-Collins is a creative and innovative teacher who strives for excellence,” said Racquel Dobbs, a fourth-grade teacher at Bradley. “She look sfor new opportunities for her students to learn including video conferencing lessons with other students around the world.”

While she recognizes the importance of students being technologically savvy with computers and other devices, Boyd-Collins also reminds them of the value of being skilled writers. Her commitment to hard work and best practicesis making a difference. Her students made significant gains in the writing and English language arts section of the PASS (Palmetto Assessment of State Standards) test in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.

Not only is Mrs. Boyd-Collins an exceptional educator, she also serves her colleagues as a teacher leader by showing them successful writing techniques she uses with her students in the classroom.
