3-Year Sentence for Reckless Homicide

Central resident Astrid Muller convicted of reckless homicide and hit and run charges.

A Central woman will serve three years in prison after a Greenville County jury convicted her of reckless homicide charges in connection with the death of an Easley man two years ago.

Astrid Muller, 28, of 843 Issaqueena Trail, Apt. 103, Central, was sentenced Thursday.

According to the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office, evidence presented at trial established that shortly after 9pm on October 9, 2010, Muller was driving her 2002 Ford Focus in and out of traffic on US 123 at a high rate of speed.

Muller, a Clemson University grad student, struck James David Grisham, 49, who was traveling on a moped, on his way home from Fall for Greenville.

Solicitors said Muller did not stop after striking, Grisham who was “killed almost instantly.”

Muller continued driving her severely damaged vehicle, then hid the car from law enforcement personnel who were looking for the vehicle involved in the collision.

Muller was arrested the following day, following an investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and it's Piedmont Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.

Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Muller to six years, suspended on three years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins III said Muller will have to serve at least 85 percent of the three year sentence.
