Best Chevy Donates to Easley Little League

Best Chevrolet of Easley donates equipment and funds to Easley Little League Wednesday.

Baseball season is here and Easley Little League has received a boost from a local business.

Best Chevrolet of Easley donated equipment bags, baseball buckets, a practice net, batting tees, lineup card pads, umpire ball bags, 500 pairs of eye black and 150 T-shirts and an additional $500 to Easley Little League Wednesday morning.

The donation is part of Chevrolet’s Youth Baseball program, which is entering its eighth year. Since its introduction, more than three million young people in communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play have been involved.  In 2012, about 1,600 Chevrolet dealers participated across the country.

Easley Recreation Department Director Gregg Powell thanked Best Chevrolet and owner Pete Mirante for the generous donation.

“On behalf of Easley Little League, we just appreciate Chevy being a national sponsor to Little League Baseball,” Powell said. “With Easley being the host of the Big League World Series, and the kids here in town with the Easley local Little League, we just appreciate Best Chevy - they've stepped up to the plate.”

In addition, Best Chevrolet is helping set up a free instructional clinic through the Ripken Baseball Organization as well as giving league community members the opportunity to enter for a chance to win a 2013 Chevy Malibu or Traverse through the free Chevrolet Youth Baseball Sweepstakes with a second prize of a home entertainment package.

“We want the young people of our community to have a great summer with Easley Little League,” Mirante said. “We're just happy we can be part of this whole experience and team up with the Easley Little League. We're always looking to help children.”

Mirante has coaching experience himself.

“I've coached Little League baseball and softball, tee ball, high school baseball, high school softball, so I'm very willing to help, anytime we can, when it comes to do with children and sports,” Mirante said.

He's seen firsthand the impact Little League has on children.

“What it teaches kids about self-worth and sense of responsibility and organization,” he said. “It keeps them off the streets. It keeps them involved. Most kids in Little League do better in school, because of the discipline they're taught in sports. We're just happy we can help.”

Easley Little League offers 22 teams for players ranging from age 4 to 11 plus four district teams. Easley Little League’s season starts with a family cookout on April 12 with games starting on April 13.
