A Gift For Friends On the Last Day of School

On Tuesday my son's kindergarten class officially graduated from K5.

While the graduation is over, they still have a couple of half days of school to knock out before the 2011-12 school year is officially in the books.

Steven wanted to give something to his friends to help them remember him and to wish them a great summer. But what?

His class is pretty big and let's face it, this mom isn't made out of money.

I started searching around on Pinterest and found a few cute ideas.

One was a water bottle with a pack of Kool-Aid and a note that said, "Have a Kool summer! Great idea! And the bottle could be reused.

I bought Kool-Aid at Walmart pretty cheap, but after pricing water bottles for 27 kids it was back to the drawing board.

I found a few other ideas like Kool-Aid playdough, but that requires moms and dads to have to buy more stuff and nobody wants a gift like that!

Tuesday night while I was in Kmart, I found 8 oz. Ball Freezer Jars and the price was within range — five jars with screw tops for $1.50, so I spent $9. My plan started to come together from there.

I bought a couple of bags of Smarties and some gumballs $6.

On Wednesday morning, I crafted a clever note (OK, clever in my opinion) and printed them eight to a page.

When Steven got home from school, I put him to work.

First, he put a pack of Kool-Aid and his note in each jar. (Hopefully, there will be no lawsuits for copyright infringement.)

Then, he counted out four gumballs and four Smarties into each cup. He tightened the lids on each of the cups and his gifts were ready! He was very proud of the finished product and with knowing that he had done it all by himself!
