Falling for Easley

Easley... I've lived about 12 miles from it most of my life.

The longer I’m in Easley, the more I want someone to kidnap me and keep me here.

I’ve lived 12 miles from Easley most of my life, but its only been in the last year that I’ve really started to appreciate the town and the people who live here.

For years, I’ve driven over to Easley to shop at , and Under the Carolina Moon, formerly Carolina Girl Apparel, to avoid a trip to the mall or even worse, a trip to Woodruff Road.

In March, I became the interim editor for Easley Patch. The former local editor decided to return to his native Connecticut and to operate his hometown Patch site. Now, who can blame a guy for wanting to go home?

While I had filled in for the former editor on a few occasions during the past nine months, working on the site daily has been challenging, but it’s also been a great opportunity for me to get to know this community and the people here.

In a few short weeks, I’ve moved my gym membership, I’ve changed grocery stores and I’ve found new restaurants, all in Easley.

Why? It’s convenient, yes. But, it’s mainly because of the people.  They are welcoming, friendly and engaging, all things that a southern girl loves to surround her self with on a daily basis.

Carolyn Farr Smith is an associate regional editor for Patch. A native South Carolinian and self-proclaimed "Jill-of-all-trades," she has pieced together a career as a news gatherer for print and TV.
