Show slated for 7pm Thursday, Sept. 20

From births and funerals to the coronation of kings, drums have heralded major life events in the Central African country of Burundi since ancient times. With current musical groups, such as The Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi, still active, the reverence and significance for this special instrument has not waned.

The Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi will perform at Clemson University's Books Center for the Performing Arts Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. as part of the center's Family Series.

"Bringing an entirely new cultural experience to our stage is a privilege," said Brooks Center Director Lillian Harder. "Not only do we seek to entertain our patrons, but groups like the Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi also educate our audiences and introduce a part of the world that many have never seen."
