Career Center Program Receives $7,500 SC Firefighters' Association Grant

Grant will help certify new volunteer firefighters at Pickens County Career & Technology Center

On December 12, 2012, Pickens County Career & Technology Center’s Emergency and Fire Management Program, led by instructor Greg Newton, was notified it will received a $7,500 grant for the current school year from the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association.

The purpose of the grant is to attract volunteer firefighters in South Carolina. Currently in Newton’s program, students may earn certifications in Emergency Medical Responder and Professional Rescuer CPR.

According to Newton “Our curriculum will align with the South Carolina Fire Academy so students will be eligible for certification as a Fire Fighter 1 and 2”.
