Clemson President Invited To Speak In Washington
Barker to take part in Department of Commerce panel on technology

Clemson University President James F. Barker will participate in a U.S. Department of Commerce panel discussion on technology transfer and industry collaboration.
Barker will show how education and research initiatives at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) in Greenville and the Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI) in North Charleston have help drive economic development across South Carolina.
The panel is scheduled to meet at 10:25 a.m. Monday at the Commerce Department in Washington.

The panelists will discuss best practices and emerging trends in innovation, entrepreneurship and regional economic development. The audience is expected to include more than 400 academic and government leaders.
Using examples and success stories at CU-ICAR and CURI, Barker will demonstrate the long-lasting benefits to higher education and workforce development through industry collaboration.

Barker will discuss how these research and education centers foster partnerships with local industries and help spur job creation.
The panelists include the presidents of Northeastern University in Boston, the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla.
The panel is to be moderated by Patrick Gallagher, under secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
During his trip to Washington, Barker also will meet with officials at the White House and host a breakfast for Washington delegates and staff to present findings of Clemson’s recently released South Carolina economic impact study.
