Clemson Sertoma Club Wins Charity Regatta

CLEMSON — The Clemson Sertoma Club won the inaugural Team Up for Clemson Regatta held on Hartwell Lake Saturday, Oct. 27. The event, hosted by the Joint City-University Advisory Board, pitted amateur rowing teams against one another with proceeds benefitting local charities.

Clemson University’s varsity women’s rowing team worked with the teams to teach them how to row. Each boat also had two members of the team and a coxswain on board. The event was held at the women’s rowing boathouse on Hartwell.

“The first annual Joint City-University Advisory Board Team up for Clemson Regatta was a fantastic success,” said women’s rowing coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “Our student athletes had a great time teaching people from the university and the local community how to row, and we were able to raise a lot of money for many great local charities. We are looking forward to working with the community again next year on this great event.”

The winning team was captain Eric Lunblade, Kimi Artita, Marina Clements, Cory Beck, Culley Holland and Clark Burgess. The coxswain was Sarah Egan, and the two rowers from the university’s team were Tatiana Lundstrom and Kelli Couture.

The Clemson Sertoma Club team won the service club division. They competed against winners from the other divisions to win the President’s Cup. Other division winners were:

• Nonprofit division: “The Free and Easies” from the Clemson Free Clinic
• Community business division: “Sardis Shark Bait” from Sardis Den Restaurant
• College team division: “SWU Crew” from Southern Wesleyan University
• Clemson community/neighborhood division: “Rock & Rowers”
• Church division: First Baptist Church of Clemson

Proceeds from the event will benefit the women’s rowing team as well as Clemson Community Care, the Clemson Child Development Center, Littlejohn Community Center, the Arts Center, Clemson Area African-American Museum and Clemson Free Clinic.
