Daniel Students Take Part in Clemson Poetry Declamation Contest
Pickens County student among 400 students taking part in competition.

Nine students from Daniel High School’s German program participated in Clemson University’s 40th annual foreign language Poetry Declamation Contest held on Saturday, October 27. This year 400 students from South Carolina and Georgia represented 34 different schools in the competition. Participants were required to recite two poems from memory in a foreign language.Â
The following students were recognized in an awards ceremony following the competition: Benjamin Cram, third place, Level 1; Kathleen Herbst, first place, Level 2; Grant Pigeon, second place, Level 2; Tim Housand, third place, Level 2; Sarah Waldvogel, first place, Level 3; Grace Wiedeman, second place, Level 3; John Holmes, second place, Level 4; and Erika Ryan, third place, Level 4.
Johanna Beck, a German native, dedicated many hours working with the students and preparing them for the contest. Daniel High’s German students are taught by Kathleen Dickel and Delana Snyder.
