UPDATE: Suspect Killed While Fleeing Police Had Stolen Car

Suspect killed in one-car collision while fleeing police had fled scene of accident, stolen car.

UPDATE: 9:25pm, Friday, November 16 

The suspect killed while fleeing police earlier today had stolen a car from an Easley subdivision, police said.  

According to Major Tim Tollison with the Easley Police Department, Easley police responded to Powdersville Road and Mossie Smith Road to investigate an auto accident.

When police arrived on the scene, one of the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident fled the scene of foots towards Forest Park Subdivision, Tollison said. 

Officers observed a red Pontiac leaving Forest Park subdivison, he said.

The car had no license plate and was driven by a white male matching the description of the suspect who fled the scene of the accident, Tollison said. 

An officer attempted to stop the Pontiac, but the driver attempted to elude officers at a high rate of speed, Tollison said. 

The suspect turned onto Rock Springs Road. The driver continued to accelerate before losing control, he said.  

The Pontiac left the roadway near Patrick Avenue and flipped an unknown number of times, Tollison said. 

The suspect was ejected and the vehicle landed upside down on top of him, he said. 

The Pontiac was reported stolen out of Forest Park Subdivision, Tollison said. 

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office is working the vehicle theft 

The red Pontiac that the suspect was driving was reported stolen, moments later from Forest Park Subdivision. Pickens County Sheriffs office is working this vehicle theft.

The Pickens County Coroner has not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. 

The Easley Police Department is investigating the wreck on Powdersville Road.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal one-car collision.

A police chase ended in the death of a Greenville County man Friday afternoon.

Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne with the SC Highway Patrol said that Easley Police were pursuing a 2004 Pontiac GTO north on Rock Springs Road for unknown reasons Friday afternoon when the crash occurred.

Rhyne said the car went off the right side of the road near Patrick Avenue struck a culvert and overturned.

The driver was ejected from the car.

The deceased was a 52-year-old male from Greenville County. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley has yet to release the name of the deceased.
