Easley's Collins Headed to Wofford College

Spencer Collins signed his letter to intent to play at Wofford College.

A big part of the Green Wave is rolling to Spartanburg.

Spencer Collins has signed a letter of intent Saturday to play basketball at Wofford College.

Head coach Grant Stallard said the official letter was sent Monday morning to the college.

"I'm excited for Spencer," Stallard said. "Not only is it a great basketball program, he is going to get a great education."

Collins, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, scored 684 points during his senior season at , according to Max Preps.

Collins finished his senior season with more than 1,800 points, according to Stallard.

"Spencer hasn't reached his full potential," Stallard said. "Wofford is getting a diamond in the rough."

Stallard said the first thing that coaches always ask during the recruiting process is "what kind of kid is he?"

"With Spencer that's easy to answer, he's quiet and very respectful," Stallard said.

Stallard said that Collins had visited Tulane and had planned to visit Winthrop next week. He said after visiting with Wofford and Coach Mike Young, Collins was ready to sign.

"Wofford seems to have a very tight-knit group," Stallard said. "I'm glad that he is close enough for people to go watch. He's a hometown hero."
