Easley's Responsible Dog Ownership Day Approaching
New features and participants announced for Sept. 22 event

Easley's Responsible Dog Ownership Day is right around the corner, and Councilman Dave Watson said planners are adding new features to it all the time.
“Chuck Floyd of Chuck's Pet Grooming, probably has at least 14-15 booths that are going to set up,” he said.
Easley's Responsible Dog Ownership Day will be held 9am – 2pm Saturday, September 22 at Hagood Park. Supported by the American Kennel Club, Responsible Dog Ownership Day events will be held around the country.

Newly announced exhibits at the Easley event include a demonstration of protection dogs.
“You see them all the time, the guys stuffed up in the big suits and the dogs come and attack them,” Watson said. “They're going to have a demonstration of that.

Dog owners will be able to trade in harmful collars for new ones, Watson said.
“If you've got a choke collar, they will trade you the choke collar for a pet-friendly collar, that you can still control the dog with, at no charge,” he said. “They'll trade out with you.”
A wide variety of animal organizations, groomers and rescue groups will be present at Responsible Dog Ownership Day, including:
- The Easley Police Department K-9 Demo
- Sue Conklin – The Puppy Nanny
- A Microchip Clinic held by the Pickens Animal Hospital
- Kits and Kats Cat Rescue
- Crafts for Critters Rescue
- Natures Select Pet Food
- Ask the Groomer: local groomers will be taking questions
- The Foothills Humane Society will be doing an Adopt-athon
- Pitbull Rescue
- Premium Sharpening
- Dogs for Autism
- The AKC’s Canine Goodwill Ambassador, Darkstarr’s Goddess Frigga aka Dessi will be at the park meeting people that day.
Starving Artist Café and Lynda Manning will provide refreshments during the event.
Officials urged everyone to enjoy all Easley has to offer that day
“That evening we'll have the family movie at Old Market Square,” Watson said. “It's a whole day of activities. The farmers market, the dog event, then the family movie. The farmers market and the amphitheater are both pet-friendly. Make a day with your family.”
Mayor Larry Bagwell said the event will serve as a dedication for the dog park at Hagood Park.
“If you haven't seen our dog park, it's pretty nice,” Bagwell said. “It's going to be a good day, if you love animals.”
