EHS Gathering Materials for Time Capsule
Capsule will be filled with items from last year at old school site and first year at new EHS campus.

Easley High School officials are seeking materials to place in a time capsule honoring both the new Easley High School campus and the former campus on Pendleton Street.
Social Studies teacher Tracy Todd said Easley High School has a wealth of traditions that live on at the new school.
“Easley High School is a school that loves tradition,” Todd said. “The move to this beautiful new school has not changed that truth. We are a school that has taken pride in our traditions, and will continue to.

The new school has incorporated traditions begun at the former campus, she said.
“We did not abandon what we held dear about our old school when we moved here,” Todd said. “As you drive up to the new school, you see our familiar columns that represent Easley to the community. When you attend a football game, the bell rings on the sidelines like it did all those years ago with Doris (Childress) ringing it. When basketball season arrives, you'll pass by the 'E' from the old gym floor hanging on the wall. We even have the phonograph that was used to ring the bell in the 1939 building.”

But there may come a time when the school needs to offer a reminder of those traditions – hence the time capsule project, Todd said.
“We are creating a time capsule which we will fill with items from the last year at the old school and the first year at the new school, to explain to future generations who we are,” she said.
The time capsule will explain to future generations the culture of Easley High School, and its importance to the community.
“They explain who we are and what matters most to us,” Todd said. “Our plan is to fill this time capsule with items that define EHS.”
Though the school year has just begun, Easley High has already been struck by tragedy, and the time capsule will reflect that.
“It is our response to those events that define us,” Todd said. “Therefore, we are going to include a T-shirt commemorating Daniel Smith, whose promising life was cut way too short. But we're not remembering the senseless violence that took his life. What we want future generations to remember is how EHS joined together and wore those shirts in a simple act of unity. EHS is a family, and we want to send that into the future.”
The time capsule will reflect the accomplishments of students.
“We're going to include newspaper clippings of C.J. Fuller 's new school record in football,” Todd said. “Future generations can read that when he's an NFL superstar. Our marching band has recently won a 4A competition, we'll include programs from that. Each sport, each program, each accomplishment,we want to celebrate and send into the future. EHS is a wonderful school of tradition and we want that to for future generations. We want them to know their roots.”
