EHS Mourns Sudden Loss of Teacher
Science teacher Dr. Mike Carmical passed away Tuesday night.
Dr. Mike Carmical, a science teacher at Easley High School, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday night.
Carmical was a teacher in the district since 1996.
“We are shocked and saddened by this sudden loss,” said EHS principal Tim Mullis. “Dr. Carmical always had a smiling face and was ready to help out anyway he could.”

Carmical taught one year at Getty Middle School as a ninth grade science teacher and moved to EHS in 1997, when the ninth grade moved up from GMS. “This is a tough loss for our school and the local community,” Mullis said. “Mike was very active in his church and Lions Club of Pickens. He will be missed by all.”
Students and staff at EHS were informed on Wednesday morning, and counselors were made available for students.

“The school district mourns the loss of Dr. Carmical,” said Dr. Kelly Pew, SDPC superintendent. “He has had a positive impact on many families in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Carmical’s family.”
The district will release funeral plans once arrangements have been made.
