Appalachian Stories & Songs

Appalachian Stories and Songs will be held at 2:30 p.m. March 11 at Hampton Memorial Library in Easley with John Fowler.

Fowler, offspring of North Carolina mountain people who came down into Piedmont to work in the textile mills, became a storyteller, banjo strummer, and washboard player by default. He currently hosts the long-running old time music radio program, “This Old Porch” and travels the countryside recording stories to turn into documentaries.  You are sure to have a good time listening to him talk old times and play a tune or two.

This program is free, open to all and sponsored by the SC Humanities Council as part of the Smithsonian Institution’s “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music” traveling exhibition. For more information, call the library at 850-7077 or email reference@pickens.lib.sc.us.  For a complete calendar of local events associated with the New Harmonies exhibition, visit www.carolinafolkmusic.org.
