This year Equal Pay Day was celebrated April 17 because this day symbolizes the month and day when women’s wages catch up to men’s wages from the previous year. According to Census Statistics released in September, women working, fulltime, year round make on average, 77 cents for every dollar a male earns. Over the lifetime of work this loss adds up into a shockingly high career wage gap. The typical woman loses $431,000 in pay over a 40 year career. Many BPW Organizations in the United States brought awareness to Equal Pay Day through different activities and events. Easley BPW members had their annual Equal Pay Day Event at The Starving Artist Café combined with the welcoming of twenty new BPW members.
The BPW Mission Statement is to achieve equality for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. The Objectives are to elevate the standards of women in business and in the professions; to promote interest of business and professional women; to bring about a spirit of cooperation among business and professional women and to extend opportunities to business and professional women through education along the lines of industrial, scientific and vocational activities.
