Former Teacher Returns to First School As Principal

Dr. Del Freitag has been named the principal at McKissick Elementary School in Easley.

An Upstate educator has been named principal to the elementary school where he began his teaching career.

The School District of Pickens County has named Dr. Del Freitag as the new principal at McKissick Elementary School in Easley.

Freitag will succeed Stephanie Price, who is retiring at the end of June.

“Dr. Freitag is a positive leader who has a heart for all children," said Superintendent Dr. Henry Hunt. "He is looking forward to returning to McKissick, the school where he began his career in education.”

Freitag has served as principal at Pickens Elementary School since March 2006.

Freitag began his education career as a classroom teacher, first at McKissick and then at Travelers Rest/Grove Elementary in Greenville County.

In 1989, Freitag began working as a counselor and administrative assistant at Crosswell Elementary and at East End Elementary. He moved to as an assistant principal in 1995.

Freitag received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania Kutztown in 1978 and a master’s degree from Clemson University in 1981. He also was certified as an educational specialist in guidance in 1989 and in educational administration in 1994. He earned a doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2001.
