UPDATED: Governor Haley Threatened Before Visit to Liberty

Liberty police are in the process of signing arrest warrants after a school volunteer at Liberty Elementary made statements about harming Gov. Nikki Haley prior to her visit there Tuesday morning. This was the first of two stops the governor is schedule

An Upstate woman is in custody after making threats toward Gov. Nikki Haley Tuesday.

John Eby, a spokesman for the School District of Pickens County, told Fox Carolina that around 8:30 a.m. a parent volunteer at Liberty Elementary was talking to a school staff member when she made a remark about harming the governor.

The staff member contacted the principal who in turn called police. The woman was taken into custody before Haley arrived.

Liberty police said they will release more information once arrest warrants have been signed in the case.

This was the first of two stops Haley is making in Pickens County.

She is scheduled to speak at an Easley Rotary meeting at the William A. Carr Conference Center at 12:30 p.m.
