Hagood Mill Hosting Fiddler's Roundtable

You are cordially invited to come out to historic Hagood Mill for a “Fiddler’s Roundtable” and get a unique opportunity to hear some of South Carolina (and one North Carolina) fiddlers demonstrate and talk about their skills.

This Saturday, April 6 gathering is not only an chance to learn more about some of the great fiddlers currently playing in the Upstate but an occasion to hear about their journeys on the path of old time fiddling.

We will learn about how they got into fiddling, what their favorite music is to play, and we will gain insights into their lives as fiddlers. The free Roundtable begins at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until 4:00 p.m.

Two of Pickens County’s finest fiddlers, David White and Josh Johnson will be there along with the current South Carolina Fiddle Champion, Robert Burns from Taylors. From Columbia, will be Kristen Harris, who is currently finishing her Master’s studies at USC in Music Education. Alan Dillman, from Saluda, NC, is a quite active fiddler in the Upstate playing with bands like Skeeziks and the Blue Ridge Rounders. Fiddler and fiddle teacher, Bob Buckingham, will be moderating the event. Weather permitting, the event will take place on the outdoor stage, so bring a lawn chair. 

Hagood Mill is located just 3 miles north of Pickens or 5 ½ miles south of Cherokee Foothills Scenic Hwy 11 off SC Hwy 178 at 138 Hagood Mill Road. Hagood Mill is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to tour the buildings and grounds and to visit the Mill Site Gift Shop.

The Hagood Mill Historic Site & Folklife Center, along with the Pickens County Museum of Art & History, is funded in part by Pickens County, members and friends of the museum and a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
