Nationwide the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.676 on Thursday, AAA reports.

In South Carolina the average price per gallon is $3.34, compared to $3.53 in North Carolina and $3.43 in Georgia. The most expensive gallon of gas is $4.54 in Hawaii followed by $4.51 in Alaska.

An estimated 437,000 South Carolina motorists — a 3.3 percent increase over last year — were expected to begin traveling Thursday as the summer travel season begins with the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
