Identity of Driver Released in Motorcycle, Deer Collision

The Pickens County Coroner's Office has released the identity of a Pickens man killed in a crash with a deer Thursday night.

The coroner's office said Hayne Christopher Sheppard II was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday night, according a WSPA report.

Sheppard died of blunt force injuries to his head.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Sheppard was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a deer, as he traveled west on Fox Squirrel Ridge Road near Pickens. The crash happened at 6:40 p.m. near the intersection of Trotter Road.

According to a recent survey by State Farm, eight out of every 1,000 South Carolina drivers hit a deer last year.
