Ann Hampton, mother of Capt. Kimberly Hampton and her co-author Anna Simon to speak at Strom Thurmond Institute.

The Clemson University Calhoun Lecture Series presents authors Ann Hampton and Anna Simon, authors of "Kimberly’s Flight," the story of the life and death of the first female pilot killed by hostile fire in combat in U.S. history.
Hampton and Simon will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Self Auditorium of the Strom Thurmond Institute. The one-hour lecture is free and open to the public.
Capt. Kimberly N. Hampton was living her dream: flying armed helicopters in combat and commanding D Troop, 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, the armed reconnaissance aviation squadron of the 82nd Airborne Division. On Jan. 2, 2004, the dream ended when a heat-seeking missile brought down Hampton's helicopter in Fallujah, Iraq, killing her.
