Letter: "Common Sense Gun Regulation? Really?"

Letter's writer says gun laws will not protect children.

Today I listened to a news video released on local TV showing a local mother who organized a One Million Moms For Gun Controlevent in her backyard.

She was inspired by a facebook page Have a Heart Campaign. Erin Dando said, “We're not politicians, we're just a group of mom's really working to protect our children” So she gathered a group of like-minded moms and their children to make Valentine cards with gun control messages “from the children” to send to their local congressmen in Washington. One child's message said, “Can you make gun laws stronger?” Another child's said, “Happy Valentines Day please protect me with stronger gun laws.”

That one really was interesting to me because if you look at the card closely you will see the child did not write that message...he only signed it.

Then one child who was interviewed on camera said, “I'm going to write Dear Senator please get rid of guns, because guns are just unsafe.” I have a hard time believing these are original children thoughts without having been lectured ahead of time by their mom's beliefs.

This use of children is shameful! Erin Dando further stated, We have one issue and it's preventing gun violence through COMMON SENSE regulation.” “COMMON SENSE” regulation...REALLY???

Well common sense tells me that passing a gun law won't protect my child. The only thing that will protect my child is EQUAL PROTECTION. Does she really think that a law protects your child from a crazed gunman? So her COMMON SENSE solution says, if one of those Sandy Hook teachers had just said, “Stop, there's a law against you having that gun!” none of the murders would've taken place???

Ridiculous...her COMMON SENSE is not common at all!

It is COMMON SENSE that criminals do not obey laws! So if Erin Dando wants to truly protect her child,COMMON SENSE says she should be advocating stronger security and EQUAL PROTECTION against a crazed gunman by EQUAL STRENGTH coming from a responsible gun owner not a new law!
