Little Chefs Competing in District Competition
32 area elementary school students competing in the Top Future Chef competition Tuesday afternoon.

Pickens County elementary students are set to compete for the title of Top Future Chef in their school district.
A total of 32 kids—two representatives from each elementary school—will compete on Tuesday, March 26 in the Future Chefs Culinary Competition. They each will have 30 minutes to put together a salad based on their own recipe. The winning salad will go on the lunch menu for Pickens County schools next year.
"When kids feel an ownership of what they eat and the types of exercise they can participate, in goes miles toward developing a healthy lifestyle," said Sally Nicholson, director of Student Nutrition Services.
The students’ entries will be judged by 7 food nutrition and packaging science majors from Clemson University. They will judge based on healthiness, originality, ease of preparation, kidfriendliness, and plate preparation.
The students have been eager to get involved.
"We've had over 80 students enter the contest out of 16 schools,” Nicholson said. “For this being the first time we're doing this, I'm very pleased with the participation."
The competition will be held at the Pickens County Career and Technology Center at 4 p.m. on March 26. The Career and Technology Center is located at 990 Chastain Road, Liberty, SC.
