Lori Peake to Lead Pickens County Cancer Association

Association's mission is to improve quality of life of cancer patients and their families

Exciting things are happening at the Pickens County Cancer Association.
Cynthia L. Smoak, current Executive Director of the PCCA announced her
successor Lori Peake will take the reigns October 1st.

"This is an exciting time for the Pickens County Cancer Association," Smoak said. "We have a leader who is passionate about the cancer victims in Pickens County and who is ready to make a difference. Lori is excited to continue the fundraising
efforts of the PCCA and grow our programs to reach out to those who need
us."

The mission of the Pickens County Cancer Association is to improve the
quality of life of cancer patients and their families through financial,
educational and emotional assistance as well as cancer awareness and
prevention programs and materials to the public of Pickens County.

The Pickens County Cancer Association assist with mileage reimbursement to and from treatment, nutritional support, and support groups.  They also have educational material at the office not only for victims of cancer, but for the families that support them.

"I am blessed that the Board of Directors felt my leadership would serve
the PCCA well," Peake said. "I have a passion for those who have cancer.  My dad, a retired oncologist, has instilled in me the value of serving others.  I intend to do that with those we serve.  I can't believe Pickens County didn't have a resource for patients before Cynthia and Angie Gilstrap founded this organization.  We aren't letting Cynthia get away though. She will be moving to the Board of Directors and helping with our fundraising efforts.  Angie Gilstrap will still remain as our nurse
educator and support our patients on that level.  Of course this organization does not exist without its volunteers.  We still remain a volunteer only organization. Without our volunteers we do not operate."

Currently the Pickens County Cancer Association has several needs.  They
are in need of Ensure to provide to patients who need nutritional support.
They also need gift cards for office products, gas stations, and supplies. Additionally office volunteers are needed one day a week from 9am until 1pm.  If you would like to donate contact the Pickens County Cancer Association office at 864-878-0611 or Lori.Peake@pccancer.org.
