Marshall Chapman to Speak in Easley Tuesday

Singer and storyteller will appear at Annual Meeting of the Easley Friends of the Library.

Singer, storyteller and author Marshall Chapman is the guest speaker at the Easley Friends of the Library's Annual Meeting Tuesday.

The annual business meeting begins at 6:30pm, Tuesday January 22 at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library. Refreshments will be served.

Chapman's program begins at 7pm, is free to attend and is open to the public.

Born and raised in Spartanburg, Chapman has said that an Elvis Presley concert launched her rock n'rill dreams.

She has released 12 critically acclaimed albums and her songs have been recorded by many artists, including Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett and John Hiatt.

Her latest is Big Lonesome, released in 2010, the same year Chapman appeared in the movie Country Strong, where she played Gwyneth Paltrow's character's road manager.

In 2004, Chapman's first book, Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller, was the 2004 SIBA Book Award Finalist and a finalist for the Southern Book Critics Circle Award.

The book uses 12 of Chapman's songs as a kind of map to her life and adventures.

Her second book, They Came to Nashville, features personal stories from Music City legends including Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson and Miranda Lambert.

In addition to these books, Marshall is a contributing editor to Garden & Gun, Vanderbilt, and Nashville Arts magazines.
