Medical Center Powdersville Now Open
Project a collaboration between Baptist Easley Hospital and Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center.
The much awaited Medical Center Powdersville, located at the corner of Highway 81 and McNeely Road, opened to patients on January 29.
The project is a collaboration of Baptist Easley Hospital and Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS), physical evidence of the joint-venture partnership occurring in October 2009 (when GHS purchased 50 percent of Baptist Easley from Palmetto Health).
“For ten years we have had plans to expand our healthcare services in Powdersville,” said Roddey E. Gettys, III, CEO of Baptist Easley. “The area has long been under-served for medical services. Now community residents will be able to get a full array of services close to home.”
Bringing an additional 40 jobs to the area, the new medical center will foster additional economic growth to the already growing community. The annual operating investment in salaries, supplies, and other expenses in the local economy will exceed $3 million.
An MD360 Convenient Care anchors the Medical Center of Powdersville, providing walk-in and urgent care services seven days a week. Additionally, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas and Proaxis Therapy provide a full array of orthopaedic and physical therapy services. Surgical Specialists of GHS University Medical Group Department of Surgery staff an 11-room suite. Diagnostic x-ray and laboratory services are on site, as well as a 16-slice CT scanner, operated by Baptist Easley Hospital. The Baptist Easley’s Sleep Lab also relocated to the new center and doubled in size. Finally, the center offers a community room for health education events and much-needed space for use by others in the Powdersville community.
A steering committee composed of members of Baptist Easley, GHS, and Palmetto Health oversaw Medical Center Powdersville to its completion. GHS physician James Elis, MD, was the physician lead. Sue Shugart, Director of Business Development at Baptist Easley, and Mark Curtis, Director of Facilities Development at GHS, were administrative leads.
Paul Cook, Director of Facilities at Baptist Easley, was project manager for the 34-acre site. Gregory T. Jones of JMD Architects Inc., in collaboration with Batson Architects Inc., both of Greenville, designed the center. Triangle Construction, also of Greenville, was the general contractor. The initial investment by Baptist Easley for the 32,500 square-foot facility was approximately $8 million.
