Motorcyclist Dies After Striking Deer in Roadway

South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver was not wearing a helmet.

A Pickens man is dead after a collision with a deer Thursday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle has died after striking a deer, as he traveled west on Fox Squirrel Ridge Road near Pickens. The crash happened at 6:40 p.m. near the intersection of Trotter Road.

Troopers said the driver was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has not been identified.

According to a recent survey by State Farm, eight out of every 1,000 South Carolina drivers hit a deer last year.
