Museum Offering "Sketchbook Studies From Nature" course

Six-week art class begins in January 2013.

The Pickens County Museum will offer a new art class to ring in the new year.

"Sketchbook Studies from Nature" is a six-week session course that will kick off in January 2013.

The Pickens County Museum is pleased to announce registration is now open for this exciting new art class. Art Instructor, Jo Johnston, worked as commercial artist for 30 years.

A graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech, she has also taught drawing, watercolor, and acrylic painting at Johnston County Community Technical College.

“Sketchbook Studies from Nature, Part 1” classes for adults; Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, and 12. Six-Week Sessions held in the Liz Smith-Cox Educational Studio at the Pickens County Museum. Sketching nature’s variety in pencil, pen and watercolor is a fun way to build your drawing and painting skills.  During this 6-week course, we will discuss and demonstrate several easy ways to make your sketchbook work for you to develop techniques and encourage creativity. This class is a great way to begin if you’ve always wanted to take an art class! A supplies list will be given and explained at the first class. Tuition for this class is only $88 ($78 for museum members).

“Sketchbook Studies from Nature, Part 2” classes for adults; Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7, and 14. Six-Week Sessions held in the Liz Smith-Cox Educational Studio at the Pickens County Museum. Part Two of this series features practices with the exercises from Part One and adds several new techniques to strengthen your drawing/painting skills and increase creative thinking. A few extra supplies will be needed but most will be from the first class and will be discussed at the first session. Tuition for this class is only $88 ($78 for museum members).

 

Pre-registration is required for this class and you may register in person or by calling the Pickens County Museum at (864) 898-5963. Tuition may be paid by cash, check or charge.  Make check payable to the Pickens County Museum or call the Museum to use your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.  Classes will   be held at the Pickens County Museum, 307 Johnson Street in Pickens. Each class is designed and offered on a Six week session basis only, no individual selected week(s) option will be offered. Full Tuition must be paid before first class session. Students will be notified if a class is cancelled or filled. If class is cancelled all tuition will be reimbursed to registered student. No tuition will be reimbursed after start date of this class.

 

Located at the corner of Hwy. 178 at 307 Johnson Street in Pickens SC, the Pickens County Museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration for our Studio Art Classes is required.
