No One Hurt in Independence Way Fire

Structure fire appears to have been accidental

Easley firefighters responded to a structure fire at 105 Independence Way Monday afternoon.

The first responding unit reported smoke and flames coming from the residence, according to Captain Tim Rowland with the Easley Fire Department.

No one was injured in the fire, he said.

A resident of the home was confined to a wheelchair and had to be assisted from the home, Rowland said.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes, Rowland said, and spent another on salvage and overhaul.

Rowland said the home suffered extensive damage to the garage and attic areas.

The fire appears to be accidental, Rowland said.

He said the Red Cross is assisting the residents. Easley Combined Utilities responded to the scene to disconnect the power.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office was on scene to assist with traffic and the investigation.
