Norris Man Sentenced on Burglary, Theft, Escape Charges

Ricky Lee Smith to serve 23 years in prison.

Ricky Lee Smith, a prolific burglar from Norris, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for a string of Pickens County burglaries last year, 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said.

Smith, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, and two counts of grand larceny.

In addition to the jail time, Smith also was ordered to pay restitution to his victims.

Smith was charged with breaking into seven Pickens County residences between March 9 and May 31, 2012, sometimes while the residents were at home.

Smith will have to serve nearly 20 years of his sentence before he's eligible for parole, ruled Judge Edward Miller.
