Friday, Oct. 5
FIRST FRIDAY GARDEN WALK
Meet naturalist David Bradshaw for an unforgettable tour of the garden. Walks are offered the first Friday of every month, and no two outings are the same.
Fee: Free

CONCERT SERIES: Katie and Larry
Katie and Larry met each other in September 2010 during a musical gig in Greenville. The two were introduced to each other on stage and performed “Honky Tonk Women” together before they had their first conversation. From there they began a strong musical connection and now perform together in many musical styles.
Fee: $5

CU Fiddle Ensemble – Opening act Disorderly Conductor and a Case of Domestic Violins
Disorderly is a Clemson student ensemble that plays music from both the contra dance and English country dance traditions. The former is similar to bluegrass with Scots-Irish roots and contemporary sounds mixed in. It is music designed for dancing, so audience members are encouraged to get up and move!, English Country Dance music may be familiar to moviegoers from “Pride and Prejudice.”

GARDEN SPROUTS
Young children and their caregivers can discover the wonders of the Botanical Garden with the guidance of Garden naturalist and educator Sue Watts. This nature-based enrichment program for preschoolers introduces a new theme each week with new discoveries, songs to sing and engaging activities to captivate young minds. Garden Sprouts blends the Garden's unique resources with imaginative and fun ways to learn about plants and animals. Activities include music, stories, arts and crafts, nature walks, movement, touch and observation to explore each week’s seasonal theme.

Tuesday, Oct. 9
GARDEN NATURALIST: HERPETOLOGY, A PRIMER
Discover the secret lives of reptile and amphibian species in Upstate South Carolina with Garden naturalist and educator Sue Watts. Explore the natural history of each species, their distribution, ecological niche, reproduction, conservation status and more. Classroom time will be followed by a foray into the Garden to search for these elusive creatures.
Fee: $20 ($15 members and volunteers)

Wednesday, Oct. 10
DESIGNING INFORMAL EASY-CARE BORDERS
Perennials chosen for multiseason good looks, long flowering times and drought tolerance provide the basis for easy-care perennial gardens based on natural design principles. Join Garden education director Lisa Wagner to learn how to combine drought-tolerant native grasses and wildflowers in attractive perennial plantings that provide year-round interest without excessive maintenance.
Fee: $12 ($8 members and volunteers)

CHEROKEE LEAF POUNDING
Turn a simple leaf into a beautiful botanical work of art. In this workshop join Garden educator Sue Watts to gather a variety of leaves to create your own unique fabric. The class requires a minimum of five participants registered the Monday before class. All materials are provided.

Fridays, Oct. 12
CREATURES OF THE NIGHT
From bats and owls to snakes and spiders, learn about the interesting adaptations of a variety of night animals from Allison Jones and Kendra Vincent. All participants will dissect and investigate the contents of a real owl pellet ("whoooo" knows what we'll find!) End the adventure with a creepy critter craft and marshmallows by the campfire.
Please register at least three days in advance.

CONCERT SERIES: The Professors of Soul
The Professors of Soul is one the Southeast's top bands, featuring the best musicians from Upstate S.C. and the region. The music varies from soul, R&B, jazz and funk to beach and blues extravaganza.

Saturday, Oct.13
HUNT CABIN OPEN HOUSE: CELEBRATE THE HARVEST
Step back into the 19th century as you enter the historic Hunt Cabin with Sue Watts and a variety of other historical interpreters and crafts people. Sit by the fire and learn about life on the frontier. The Hunt family reportedly was the first to bring apple trees to Oconee County. In honor of this achievement, we will make apple cider with an old-fashioned apple press, enjoy something yummy cooked over the fire and participate in many other seasonal hands-on activities to celebrate nature's bounty.

Monday, Oct. 15
FALL NATURE PLAY DAY
School’s out, so come and play! Enjoy a fun-filled day with the South Carolina Botanical Garden staff. Arts, crafts, scavenger hunts, creativity and nature combine to make an unforgettable day in the Garden. Bring a sack lunch; snacks will be provided. Pre-registration required by Oct. 8.

FALL COLOR WALK
Take a walk with botanist Lisa Wagner to learn more about the ecology of fall color and leaf drop. Enjoy fall colors in the Garden and focus on the variety of tree and shrub leaf colors and talk about their differences.
Fee: $4 per person ($3 members and volunteers)

Wednesday, Oct. 17
RE-VISIONING YOUR HOME LANDSCAPE
Do you want to improve your home landscape, whether it's open, overgrown or something in between? Join Garden education director Lisa Wagner for a creative workshop focused on turning your existing yard into a garden that's attractive and sustainable. Through photo analysis and virtual site visits, this workshop will collaboratively focus on participants’ landscapes. Bring digital files or large format (8x10 or larger) photos of the areas in your landscape that you’d like to work on and a site map or plan of your property to the class. The workshop size is limited to eight.
Fee: $35 ($25 members and volunteers)

CONCERT SERIES: Sam Burchfield
Sam Burchfield has been developing his skills as a musician and a songwriter for several years. After spending his high school days in Clemson playing coffee shops and other small venues, he moved to Athens to further his musical career and to take classes at the University of Georgia. His soulful vocals and folk-influenced lyrics combine with a foundation in Southern blues and funk to provide for a diverse sound.
Fee: Suggested donation is $5

GARDEN NATURALIST: TREE ID
Learn to identify common trees of the South Carolina Piedmont by their leaves, bark, branching patterns and tree form with Garden educator Sue Watts. Use a hand lens and a dichotomous key for woody plants to identify species. Activities will be divided between classroom exercises and a field trip into the Botanical Garden forests.

NATURE DISCOVERY HIKE: FALL FRUITS AND SEEDS
Discover the interesting world of fruits, cones and seeds in a fall walk in the Garden with naturalist and botanist Lisa Wagner. Examine the variety of fruits produced and learn about their natural history, dispersal and connections with wildlife.
Fee: $4 per person ($3 members and volunteers)

HERBAL SCRUBS AND SPLASHES
Begin the weekend with a relaxing time learning about using the power of herbs to soothe and heal with Garden educator Sue Watts. We’ll prepare lavender sachets, create spa-style herbal soaks and discover the refreshing power of aromatic scrubs and splashes. The class requires a minimum of five participants registered the Monday before class meets. All materials are provided.

EFFECTIVELY COMBINE COLOR, TEXTURE AND SHAPE IN YOUR GARDEN
Combining plants in large or small spaces in your garden doesn’t have to be complicated, but benefits from using foliage texture, seasonal color and plant characteristics to create a pleasing design. Join education director Lisa Wagner to learn how to create successful combinations that work all year.

ART GALLERY
Visit the Fuller Galleries to see a rotating collection of artwork by artisans inspired by the materials, nature and beauty of the Upstate. A portion of sale proceeds benefits the S.C. Botanical Garden. There is also a permanent display of Elizabeth Belser Fuller’s extensive collection of wildflower and nature paintings.
Gallery Hours: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday.

GEOLOGY MUSEUM
The Bob Campbell Geology Museum houses an impressive collection of more than 10,000 rocks, minerals, fossils, lapidary objects (carvings, gemstones) and artifacts (mining equipment, Native American tools). Educational tours are available Tuesday-Friday. Hours: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesday–Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday. Museum admission: $3/adults and $2/children 12 and under. GENERAL INFORMATION
The South Carolina Botanical Garden is located on the Clemson University campus at the intersection of Highway 76 and Perimeter Road. The Garden encompasses 295 acres of display gardens, nature trails, woodlands and streams, and is open year-round from dawn to dusk, free of charge. Discovery Center and Garden Gift Shop hours: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 1–5 p.m. Sunday.
The Garden is partially supported by the state of South Carolina via Clemson University, but relies on private funding, memberships and proceeds from educational events to support operations.
