Powdersville Boy Saves Cousin From Choking

Eli Langager used Heimlich maneuver he learned in Cub Scouts.

"Be Prepared." It's the motto of all Boy Scouts, everywhere. One little, local scout definitely was, and in the process may have saved a life.

A 9-year-old Powdersville boy is being hailed as a hero after he saved his younger cousin from choking on a piece of candy.

Using the Heimlich maneuver that he learned as a Cub Scout, Eli Langager was able to save his 7-year-old cousin, Leah Nordman, Fox Carolina reported.

"[I was] thinking she's going to die so I need to do that Heimlich maneuver on her," Eli told the station.

"He just acted like it was something that needed to be done," Leah's mother Amy Chase told Fox. "He did it, like if he needed to sweep the floor that needed to be swept."

Langager will receive a special award from the Boy Scouts later this month for his actions, Fox reported.
