Powdersville Elementary Students Knighted in Special Ceremony
Early Act First Knight program recognize students for embodying character traits.
On Friday, March 8th third, fourth, and fifth grade students from Powdersville Elementary School in Anderson School District One were recognized in a “knighting ceremony” in the school’s multi-purpose room.
The school has been participating in the Early Act First Knight (EAFK) program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening and became the first elementary school on the east coast to conduct such a ceremony.
Mr. Brad Moore, the assistant principal at Powdersville Elementary, thinks the program has been a huge success. “Any time you can encourage students to be excellent citizens and honor those students who excel in citizenship, your school and community will benefit,” Mr. Moore said.

Students were chosen by their teachers as embodying one of three character traits or virtues. As teachers read a brief statement describing why the student was chosen, the student was asked to come to the stage, kneel and receive a medallion. This ceremony recognized students who exemplified tremendous character in the areas of responsibility, perseverance, and tolerance.
Mrs. Debra Gill, principal at Powdersville Elementary, is proud of the students who were recognized during the event. “I am proud of these students for being excellent students in the classroom, but also because they work hard to treat others with respect and do the right thing at all times,” Mrs. Gill stated.
