Public Invited to Review Proposed Textbooks

Public can view proposed text at universities and college campuses across the state.

The public is invited to review textbooks and instructional materials that have been proposed for use in South Carolina’s public schools.

The materials will be recommended to the State Board of Education for adoption on December 12, 2012, by the Instructional Materials Review Panels appointed by the Board.  The materials are in the following subject areas:

• Agribusiness and Marketing
• Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology 1, 2, 3, 4
• Automotive Collision Repair Technology 1, 2, 3, 4
• Automotive Technology 1 and 2
• Building Construction 1, 2, 3, 4
• Cosmetology 1, 2, 3, 4
• Electricity 1, 2, 3, 4
• English Language Arts, Grades 6–8
• English Language Arts, Grades 9-12
• Health Science 1 and 2
• Interior Design 1 and 2
• Introduction to Health Science
• Introduction to Teaching 1 and 2
• Machine Technology 1, 2, 3, 4
• Mathematics, Grades 6–8
• Mathematics, Grades K–5
• Nail Technology 1, 2, 3, 4
• Social Studies, Grades 6–7
• South Carolina History, Grade 8
• U. S. History and Constitution includes Advanced Placement, Grades 9–12
• World Geography, Grades 9–12

The instructional materials are on display at twenty-five colleges and universities throughout the state.  The materials will be on display from October 15 through November 23, 2012, with instructions for submitting comments available at each site.  State Board of Education members will review citizens’ comments before a final decision is made on adopting the materials.
