Red Cross Offers Disaster Volunteer Training
Training session will be held this Saturday in Greenville.

If you’ve ever considered helping the Red Cross help others in emergencies, an upcoming event is for you.
The American Red Cross will be holding a New Disaster Volunteer Training/Orientation Day at two locations this Saturday
The Greenville Office, located at 940 Grove Road will host the training, as will the Asheville Office. Located at 100 Edgewood Road in Asheville.

The training will be held from 9am – 2pm.

Red Cross volunteers have been helping out with as Hurricane Sandy approached, then helped with the aftermath and cleanup, according to Sarah Dow, Major Gifts Officer.
Since the beginning of the storm operation, the Red Cross has provided more than 92,500 overnight shelter stays in more than 250 Red Cross shelters.
More than  1 million meals and snacks have been served.Trailers of supplies continue to be en route to the most heavily impacted areas.
 The Red Cross has made more than 17,200 health and mental health consultations and has distributed more than 60,200 relief items such as clean-up kits and hygiene kits.
In addition, the Red Cross is coordinating with approximately 33 national partners such as the YMCA, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, United Methodists Committee on Relief, Islamic Relief, Latter Day Saints, National Baptist Convention USA, NAACP, AmeriCorps/NCCC, NAACP, and Children’s Disaster services.
The Red Cross is still working closely with local emergency management, FEMA Regional Coordination Centers and the National Response Coordination Center to plan for and identify needs as they appear. Red Cross leadership has been in close communication with state governors and commissioners.
Red Cross Response in New York
In New York, the Red Cross has served nearly 591,000 meals and snacks , provided nearly 10,000 health and mental health consultations, distributed nearly 23,500 relief items, and more will continue to be distribute, deployed more than 2,000 Red Cross workers to New York and mobilized 153 ERVs.
Red Cross Response in New Jersey
In New Jersey, the Red Cross has served more than 278,300 meals and snacks, provided nearly 2,600 health and mental health consultations, distributed more than 8,500 relief items, and more will continue to be distributed, deployed approximately 1,660 Red Cross workers to New Jersey and mobilized 115 ERVs.
Red Cross Response in West Virginia
In West Virginia, the Red Cross has served more than 44,200 meals and snacks, provided more than 520 health and mental health consultations, deployed approximately 350 Red Cross workers to West Virginia and mobilized 33 ERVs.
Red Cross Response in Connecticut and Rhode Island
In Connecticut and Rhode Island, the Red Cross has served more than 103,600 meals and snacks, provided more than 1,700 health and mental health consultations, distributed more than 5,400 relief items, and more will continue to be distributed, deployed more than 520 Red Cross workers to Connecticut and Rhode Island and mobilized 15 ERVs.
