Salon Raising Funds For Rapunzel Project

Fundraiser will be held 9am - 2pm Saturday, Oct. 27 at The Cutting Edge Salon

A fundraiser at an Easley Salon will raise money for a very special project.

The Rapunzel Project is a non-profit that helps provide biomedical freezers to cancer facilities, according to Ayme Howard with The Cutting Edge Salon.

These freezers are kept at -22 degrees and are used to store Penguin cold caps, she said.

“Penguin cold caps are worn before, during and after chemotherapy treatment,” Howard said. “The caps are designed to put the hair into a coma state, so the hair does not absorb the chemo and in return the patient keeps their hair.”

The closest facilities with these freezers are Peachtree Oncology in Atlanta and Vanderbilt Breast Center in Nashville, but hopefully that will change.

Howard hopes tomorrow's fundraiser will raise enough to bring such a freezer to our area through The Rapunzel Project.

“These freezers value at roughly $9,000,” she said.

The fundraiser begins at 9am, Saturday, October 27 and runs until 2pm, Howard said.

The Cutting Edge will be offering salon packages (shampoo, cut and styles or shampoo and a blow out).

“25 percent of all retail sales and hair products tomorrow will go to the Rapunzel Project,” Howard said.

Morgan Riggins from Escape Wellness Spa will be offering manicures, shellac and parafin wax treatments.

A bounce house will be set up for the kids and popcorn and sno cones will be available, Howard said.

“We'll also be serving food from Zaxbys,” Howard said.

Foothills Dance Center will hold a Zumbathon beginning at 10am.

The fundraiser will also feature a raffle, with a variety of items including gift cards, a $100 flat iron, Kenra product baskets, Thirty one bags, massage items, jewelry and more. Tickets are $1 each to enter.

A bake sale will also be held.

T-shirts will be sold as well.

“They're $15 and they say 'Support the Rapunzel Project,'” Howard said.

Tax-deductible donations can be made directly at rapunzelproject.org or dropped off at The Cutting Edge.

The Cutting Edge is located at 1897 Gentry Memorial Highway in the Dalton Flats Shopping Center.
