SC Automotive Council Announces Summit

2nd annual summit aims to give automotive manufacturers opportunities to collaborate.

The South Carolina Automotive Council, the only statewide organization dedicated to advancing the state’s automotive manufacturing sector, today announced plans for the second annual Automotive Summit scheduled for February 5-7, 2013, at The Hyatt in Greenville, S.C. 

The South Carolina Automotive Council (SCAC) is a division of the South Carolina Manufacturer’s Alliance. It is the state’s leading organization dedicated to advancing South Carolina’s automotive manufacturing sector.

The conference will provide manufacturers across the state opportunities to collaborate while providing new insights through focused breakout sessions. Topics of discussion include growing investments in the Southeast, workforce development, and the automotive industry’s economic outlook.  The sessions will be led by executives of Bosch, Bridgestone, Daimler, and General Dynamics, as well as S.C. Secretary of Commerce, Bobby Hitt.  The Summit will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Jochen Etzel, CEO of Continental Tire the Americas, LLC.

“The SC Automotive Council will provide manufacturers expert insights into the future of the automotive industry in South Carolina. This summit will continue the momentum and growth of the auto cluster while maintaining our position at the forefront of a competitive, global industry,” said Lewis F. Gossett, President and CEO of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance. 

The Southern automotive cluster has played a consistent and pivotal role in the growth of the South Carolina economy. Since 2011, over 6,800 new automotive jobs have been created in South Carolina, which is home to more than 300 manufacturing facilities that have generated $4.4 billion in new investments.
