School Board Agrees to One Easley Middle School

Gettys Middle School students will attend the new J.C. Brice Middle beginning next school year.

The Pickens County School Board has agreed to consolidate Getty's Middle School into the new J.C. Brice Middle School, leaving Easley with one middle school next school year, Fox Carolina reported.

The board had originally contemplated splitting Gettys into two schools, one of which would have been the new J.C. Brice school, and then renovating and expanding the current Getty's school location. However, the cost of doing would have been $16 million versus the $5 million to operate exclusively out of the new Brice Middle location.

The change takes effect the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.

Meantime, the new consolidated middle school has chosen "The Riptide" as its mascot and green and black as the school colors, the report said.
