School District to Provide Meals During Summer Months

The program will run June 20 through Aug. 10

During the summer, the School District of Pickens County will provide a free breakfast and lunch to school age children up to 18 years of age.

The program, which is open to all children in Pickens County, will be housed at and Pickens Elementary.The program will operate from June 20 – Aug. 10, with the exception of July 4. The program will be closed July 4 in recognition of Independence Day.

“The program is intended to provide children in our area the foods they need to continue to learn, play, and grow when school is out for the summer," said Sally Nicholson, director of student nutrition for the district. "We realize hunger can be a concern during the summer months and we want to ensure no child goes hungry.”

Breakfast and lunch will be served Monday through Friday.

Breakfast will be served from 7 to 8 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Churches, community centers, city and county parks, nonprofit agencies and summer programs that would like to participate in the Seamless Summer Feeding Program are encouraged to complete the program application attached to this story. Representatives must attend the mandatory training session on May 17, 2012.
