Senator Larry Martin Wins Re-Election Bid

Martin captures nearly 24,000 votes in Senate 2 race.

Sen. Larry A. Martin has been re-elected to the seat he has held for 20 years.

Martin captured 23,985 votes, defeating challenger Rex Rice, who won 13,154 votes.

“I am very humbled and it’s very gratifying to get that behind me,” Martin said Tuesday night. “I’ve always enjoyed the opportunity and privilege of serving the people of Pickens County and they responded to the positive campaign I ran this tie, in spite of all the negative ads that came my way from outside the county.”

Martin said he has several priorities when the legislature reconvenes.

“First of all, the candidate filing issue, I intend to move that early in the session of the Judiciary Committee,” he said. “Second, the government restructuring bill that we came so close to passing this past session. Thirdly, the ethics reform package that will come out of the governor’s commission.”
