Special Liberty Election Slated for May 28
Filing opens March 22 for candidates wishing to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Walt McJunkin, who passed away earlier this month.

A special election will be held in a Liberty ward, following the death of Liberty City Councilman Walt McJunkin.
McJunkin died on March 2 at the age of 88. He served 11 terms on Liberty City Council.
The election to fill McJunkin's unexpired term will be held Tuesday, May 28.

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks later on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
Filing for the Ward 2 seat on Liberty City Council opens at noon on March 22 and closes at noon two weeks later on April 1.

Candidates will file with the City Clerk at the Liberty City Hall during normal business hours.
Those who have lived in Liberty and in Ward 2 for a period of not less than 30-days immediately preceding the date of this election may file as a candidate.
At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the filing fee of twenty-five dollars ($25) and turn in a paper copy (printout) of their Statement of Economics Interests (SEI) form (all pages) at the same time and with the same official that he/she files their printed Statement of Intention of Candidacy (SIC) form to be a candidate.
The Statement of Economics Interests form must be completed and filed online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov) and printed out prior to appearing at the Liberty City Hall to file to be a candidate.
The following Pickens County precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m.until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013:
Rices Creek, located at the former Liberty Middle School at 310 W. Main Street.
West Liberty, located at Liberty First Baptist Church, 403 Edgemont Avenue.
East Liberty, located at Eastside Baptist Church, 920 Anderson Drive.
North Liberty, located at Liberty United Methodist Church, 310 Mae Street.
