"The school district spends a large amount of your tax dollars," Reinert said. "The impact of our school district on our children and taxpayers is of utmost importance to every citizen. The fact is that the school board is responsible for most of the government debt in Pickens County, consuming 3/4 of our property taxes along with a large portion of our state, even some of our federal taxes, and holds the destiny of future generations in their hands.Â
Protecting school children has been a hot-button topic, following last month's deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school.Â

"Beyond all the frantic rhetoric there are practical things we can do to protect school children," Reinert said. "Unfortunately state, local and federal governments have created gun free zones that invite evil people to slaughter defenseless victims while at the same time forcing the release of a lot of unstable people from mental institutions. Fortunately in Pickens most of our schools have reserve officers who are armed."
"Learn more about what our district is doing about current situations and planning for the future," he said. "Come hear Dr. Pew, be a part of the discussion - it’s our future."
