SWU Gift to Enhance Arts at Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary

Donation will allow school to create arts-centered lessons.

Students at Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary School will benefit from a $1,125 gift from Southern Wesleyan University. SWU Greenville Regional Director Terry Blackwell, center, made the donation Dec. 19 to Holly Springs-Motlow Principal Erika Center, right.

Standing at left are Spartanburg District One Assistant Superintendent Ann Greene and Superintendent Dr. Ron Garner. The donation will fund Art in a Cart, a resource classroom teachers will use to create lessons designed to infuse the arts into their academic curriculum.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students that we can provide the arts – that’s an experience they otherwise wouldn’t get outside school,” Center said. “Every student has a talent and it’s our job every day to tap into those talents.” Art in a Cart will enhance art instruction for the school’s 430 students in grades K4 through six, according to Center.
